About
Maiken Hauksdatter Lyng Østerhagen (b. 1973) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Trondheim, Norway. Her educational and professional background encompasses studies and work in psychology, photography, graphic design, and visual art.
She holds a BFA and MFA from the Academy of Fine Art in Trondheim. Fascinated by different forms of consciousness, symbolism, and aspects of time, Maiken explores these themes through various mediums including photography, collage, painting, and embroidery.
"In my art, I explore what it means to be human through various expressions. I work with photographic weaving, painting, and embroidery, all revolving around a common core: the search for truth. I am driven by a desire to understand how we live our lives, how we can expand our awareness, and live more authentically.
The concept of time and being present in the moment are central themes in my work. Through intuitive processes, I draw material from the subconscious, which I see as a gateway to uncovering truths. For me, creation is a way to weave together the complex threads of life into a visual tapestry."
